BT Increase Landline and Call Prices By 5%

BT has announced it will be freezing many of its prices for residential customers until 2013, following a series of price updates that will take affect from December 2011.

The most popular Anytime call plan, standard line rental and calls to UK landlines will be given a prize freeze until 2013. An encouraging message for consumers is that although there is a price hike for the very popular Unlimited Anytime call plan it will have it's price frozen until early 2013, which will see a 20p rise to £4.90 a month in December.

In December, other price changes which will come into place will affect the following: standard line rental, standard broadband, call plans and the cost of calling other UK landlines. Landline charges will be rising to £14.60 - that is an increase of 5% - while call charges will also share the same percentage increase on the current price. Many other services will be seeing a 5% or less increase, but with the promise of being frozen until 2013.

John Petter, managing director of BT’s Consumer Division, said:

"We are making a series of price updates in December, but are then freezing some of our main prices until 2013. This will provide our customers with greater certainty over their bills. We are also telling them how they can save money with BT. Our Line Rental Saver product for example will soon provide customers with a saving of more than £50 per year..."
