Fri 19 Nov, 2010 // Firstnumber Team

The family of a young driver who died behind the wheel whilst using her phone have issued a warning to other motorists who still use their mobiles whilst driving.

22-year-old Tracy Wale was on her way to a new flat when her vehicle swerved into the path of oncoming traffic. While the other drivers escaped with minor injuries, Miss Wales suffered multiple injuries and died at the scene. Police investigators later found her mobile phone to be in text mode with several missed calls.

Issuing a statement on the dangers of using a mobile phone behind the wheel, her family said:

''It was a terrible accident with terrible consequences and there is no getting away from the fact that using a mobile phone whilst driving can kill.

''If anything good can come out of the death of our daughter, we would urge people to switch off their phone before getting into a car.

''Nothing is so important that you cannot wait until you reach your destination or pull over and stop.''

Police also reminded drivers that it is 'extremely dangerous to attempt to text when driving."
