Love Across the Divide

Thu 11 Feb, 2010 // Firstnumber Team

With Valentine's Day just around the corner, all this cupid-themed goo has got Firstnumber thinking. We've not just been speculating how many Valentine's cards we're going to get this year, no, in fact we've been thinking about you – the lovely people who use Firstnumber – and how you'll be spending your Valentine's Day.

Unfortunately for many people across the UK, this Valentine's day will be spent alone – not because they don't have that special someone in their lives – but because of a long distance relationship.

As many as 1 in 3 people in the UK are thought to experience some kind of long distance relationship, so the idea of being separated from a loved one won't come as a shock.

Despite public opinion suggesting that people in long distance relationships are more likely to break up, this isn't actually the case. In a survey of couples in long and short distance relationships, both were found the have the same chance of breaking up.

In fact, almost half of those in long distance relationships believed that separation made them and their partners closer, believing 'distance makes the heart grow fonder'.

When it comes to making a long distance relationship work, almost every councillor or relationship advisor will cite 'communication' as the most important factor.

Firstnumber salutes the importance of communication and being just a cheap phone call away from your loved one.

It's no surprise then that our little Valentine's gift to you - which is valid all year round – is cheap international calls which makes keeping in touch that little bit easier.

Whether you've got a darling in the Dominican Republic, a lover in Liberia or a sweetheart in Signapore with Firstnumber to hand you're only ever a dial tone away.

Oh yeah, did we mention we have a Firstnumber Twitter? Why not add us now and say hello!
