Number of Apple iPhones sold is close to doubling as sale rocket
Thu 21 Apr, 2011 // Firstnumber Team
Stakeholders at computer giant and smartphone manufacturer, Apple, were celebrating yesterday as sales of the iphone saw profits soar.
Quarterly net profits of £3.6bn – 95% up on last year – were attributed to rocketing iphone sales. 18.65m of the smartphone handsets were bought around the globe in the past three months alone.
Record iPhone sales were partially over shadowed by a slump in iPad tablet computer sales which only sold 4.69m units in the past quarter as well as a 17% dip in the number of iPods being sold.
Speaking via a statement on Apple's quarterly performance, chief executive Steve Jobs said:
“With quarterly revenue growth of 83% and profit growth of 95% we're firing on all cylinders.”
“We will continue to innovate on all fronts throughout the remainder of the year.”
