Ofcom Set To Investigate Complaints Over TalkTalk Telephone Services

Tue 23 Nov, 2010 // Firstnumber Team

The UK's second-biggest supplier of broadband – TalkTalk – is once again under scrutiny from consumer watchdog Ofcom who are investigating complaints about customers' landlines.

TalkTalk and sister company Tiscali UK have previously been investigated for charging customers for services they had not used.

In a report by the Telegraph, it was revealed that more than 1,000 complaints have been sent to Ofcom after customers complained that TalkTalk mis-sold phone packages by switching landlines without consent.

Ofcom question whether TalkTalk have overcharged landline customers

Speaking to the Telegraph, a spokesperson for TalkTalk said:

“TalkTalk is fully co-operating with Ofcom and will continue to provide all the information it needs to conduct its investigation. We continually review our sales process and take any potential issues of mis-selling extremely seriously.”

Ofcom has also instructed TalkTalk and Tiscali UK to begin measures to repair damaged relationships with customers by refunding any customers who have been over charged, dropping debt collection, withdrawing from legal proceedings and notifying credit agencies where customers' credit ratings have been affected.

If TalkTalk are unable to comply with Ofcom's rules within the next month, it could face a fine of up to ten percent of its yearly broadband and phone revenue.
