Price Hike in BT Landlines Comes into Force

Tue 12 Oct, 2010 // Firstnumber Team

Millions of BT customers across the UK can expect slightly higher bills at the end of October following new daytime call costs and line rental fees coming into effect at the start of the month.

Customers of Virgin and TalkTalk will also experience a hike in prices although those on bundle deals that incorporate internet access and television channels are unlikely to see a change in their monthly subscription costs.

Speaking to BBC News, Mark Bilige – of pricing consultancy Simon Kucher and Partners – said other factors were used as the main points of competition as people use their landlines less and turn to mobile instead.

The popularity of internet-based calling services, such as Skype, also means that increasing numbers of people are using their computers to dial friends and family.

The new charges on BT landlines means that it now costs £12.04 a month to rent a British Telecom landline and 6.4p a minute to make a call during the day.

Cheap international business calls from a BT landline with Firstnumber cost as little as 1p a minute to over 250+ destinations. Make your call today!
