Concerns over BT job cuts
Mon 10 May, 2010 // Firstnumber TeamTelecoms giant BT could be set to unveil a wave of 5,000 job cuts as it reveals its full-year results this week.
The cuts will follow a steady rise in job losses which saw 35,000 positions axed since the start of 2008.
The majority of the jobs axed will take place amongst agency and temporary staff – rather than full-time staff – although the cuts will undoubtedly affect UK workers up and down the country.
BT is currently driving to cut down costs with an eye to save £2 billion by April of next year.
Last year saw the company suffer heavy losses to the tune of £134 million despite pre-tax profist of around £1.06 billion.
Despite returning to profit in recent times, the company is forecast to see continued problems with its pension scheme's funding shortfall.
