Get Ready for the Commonwealth Games with Firstnumber

Glasgow is heating up and the competitors are intensifying their training as the 2014 Commonwealth Games approach. Taking place between 23 July and 3 August, the Games comprise of 17 different sports – ranging from table tennis to wrestling and gymnastics – and athletes from all over the globe will be coming together in Glasgow to take part.

Competitors will be housed in the brand new Commonwealth Games Athletes' Village. Located in the East End of Glasgow, the Village is billed as a home from home and will accommodate an impressive 6,500 athletes and CGA team officials for the duration of the event. No matter how comfortable the guest rooms are, athletes are sure to be making plenty of cheap calls to everywhere from Australia to Zambia as they recount their successes and failures to their families. This is the 20th Commonwealth Games and the third time Scotland has played host – although it's Glasgow's first time to hold the honour.

In the run up to the Games, the Queen's Baton Relay is travelling the length and breadth of Scotland, visiting 400 different communities on the way to Glasgow in the country's biggest ever relay. You can follow its progress online and find out if it will be in a city near you.
