Puma unveil solar powered mobile phone

Mon 19 Apr, 2010 // Firstnumber Team

As environmental concerns become ever more important to consumers, Puma and Sagem Wireless have unveiled a new solar powered mobile phone in a bid to appeal to climate conscious callers.

The mobile is a glossy and sleek smartphone that manages to pack a punch when it comes to features, despite its solar powered gadgetry.

Basic features such as internet access, video calling, Bluetooth photo sharing and an integrated FM radio are included, as is a 2.8-inch touch screen and 3.2 megapixel camera with LED flash.

According to LatestGadgets, the smartphone also boasts a ‘spin and scratch’ music player and users have access to an on-demand Puma whenever the mood takes them.

The sporting attitude at the heart of Puma’s brand is also evident in the handset, with features such as a pedometer, a stopwatch, a compass and a GPS tracker to trace a running or cycling route as well as a bike speedometer. All of which should encourage the outdoor use a solar powered phone will rely on.

Jochen Zeitz, CEO of Puma, said: "Just as Puma is unlike any other sport lifestyle company out there, the Puma Phone is unlike any mobile phone on the market. We want to engage with our community in a way that is consistent with everything Puma stands for.

"Blending together the influences of sport, lifestyle and fashion, the Puma Phone reflects the joy, spontaneity and individuality that the PUMA brand is known for."

The solar powered pocket candy will enjoy a UK release in April.
